As temperatures begin to climb, it’s all change at Kew Little Pigs, where the farm’s famous miniature residents are embracing the sunshine in true piggy style.

Adorable new pictures show piglets Slinky, Buzz and Harvest wallowing happily in cooling mud baths as the warmer weather sets in, a natural behaviour that plays a vital role in keeping pigs comfortable. Unlike humans, pigs cannot sweat effectively, so coating their skin in mud helps regulate their body temperature, while also acting as a natural sunblock and insect repellent.
Across the award-winning Amersham attraction, staff have stepped up seasonal care measures to ensure every animal stays cool and content. All of the pigs have constant access to fresh drinking water, while regular hose-down showers provide welcome relief during hotter spells.
And there’s no cutting corners when it comes to sun safety. The pigs are also treated to factor 50 sunscreen to protect their sensitive skin from burning in the heat.
Owner Olivia Mikhail said: “Pigs absolutely love the warmer weather, but just like us they need a bit of extra care when the sun is out. Mud baths are essential for them, it keeps them cool, protects their skin and it’s also something they really enjoy. You’ll often find them happily snoozing in the mud after a good wallow.”

She added: “We make sure all of our animals have everything they need to stay comfortable, from plenty of fresh water to cool showers and sun protection. Seeing them relaxed and content is what it’s all about.”
The farm, ranked among the top animal attractions worldwide by TripAdvisor users, is now gearing up for its adults-only summer events, with Pig Fest and Pig Chill this July.
